To everything there is a season. I know that intellectually. But I get anxious sometimes. I see the troubles of the world, and feel a sense of urgency. We're in a state of emergency. Do I wish we were a lot further along in our development as a species? Better believe I do. I also see the good that exists and that is possible. The Great Turning is occurring on the planet. From where I sit, facing and healing racial trauma that inflicts the hearts and minds of most humans, worldwide, is our final frontier. Can you envision THAT world? As I travel the country, doing do this heartwork, I see cracks in the armor. That's where the light can get in....

How Do I Get My Manual?
We need to hear from your RC Agency Contact before we send your manuals – the sooner, the better. About 50% of agencies have received their RC Manuals. All current orders have been fulfilled. If your agency doesn't yet have its manuals, it means we need confirmation of how many manuals are needed and what address/person to send them to.
Don't you already know our information? Getting 500 RC Manuals out the door is harder than you'd think.Yes, we have contact, RC Trainer, and Champion information in our records, but transition and change are always occurring. For example: RC Trainers or RC Agency Contacts leave or change positions, or perhaps the person taking charge of distributing manuals wants them sent to a site other than the main address, or very occasionally an agency moves. We are hoping to get the most accurate information possible to ensure your delivery goes smoothly.
How Do I Access the New PowerPoint Presentations?
As before, the RC Trainers' Corner remains your go-to for access to training materials. The new PowerPoints, Participant Packets, and a review guide are available now.

RC Basic
The RC Basic training is part of our Whole-System Change Model that client agencies take during their initial implementation, and that their RC Trainers subsequently utilize to train additional new staff. But this introductory training is also available through TSI as a freestanding virtual event three times per year. Some agencies have found this option to be an additional convenience. This session is on July 16-18, 2024, 10-5 ET.
RC Trainers must complete RC Recertification (a.k.a. RC Recert) once every two years in order to maintain their credential. If you're due this year, you'll soon receive a Recertification notice and may attend an RC Recert anytime during this calendar year. If you don't receive a notice, you're not due.
Please note: If attending Recertification, you will receive the content of Introducing the RC Trainer Manual Revision – Parts 1 & 2 as a component of your Recert. You'll need to then attend one other event this year.
Introducing the RC Trainer Manual Revision – Part 1 and Introducing the RC Trainer Manual Revision – Part 2 are running multiple times over the year to ensure all RC Trainers have a chance to attend both parts. There are two exceptions:
RC Trainers due for Recert (these will be reviewed as part of your Recert)
When you need to bulk up your group of RC Associate Trainers or Champions, virtual RC Train-the-Trainer is a useful, cost-effective solution. These are your primary advocates and influencers for trauma-informed care (TIC) at your agency; having a strong crew of RC Trainers and/or Champions is a way to sustain and deepen your TIC implementation.
This session will be on August 20-22, 2024, 11-6 ET and is open to future RC Trainers and Champions.
This training offers an intensive learning and practice experience aimed at helping IDD RC Trainers teach the RC Basic Training with fidelity to the model. The training reviews critical components of the RC Basic Training; expands and deepens learning about RC concepts; discusses implementation of trauma-informed care; and helps trainers reflect on and address their vicarious trauma and that of the staff with whom they work. This training is open only to IDD RC Trainers due for Recert.
RC Webinar: A Trauma-Informed Lens to Family Engagement
Families play a powerful role in shaping health and well-being across the lifespan. For many, they not only provide a source of identity and belonging, but are also the most enduring source of physical and emotional support. Family engagement is the practice of and commitment to a strength-based approach to relationship building and collaboration with the families of the person using services. It is a cornerstone of best practice in child and youth services and is associated with positive outcomes when working with adults. Join us on October 1, 2024, 3-4:30 ET.
Just Added to 2024 Events: RA & Foster Care Trainings
Newly added to the schedule, the Restorative Approach (RA) Basic, RA Train-the-Trainer (RA TTT), and RC Foster Care Train-the-Trainer (FC TTT) will be held October 22-23, 2024, on an à la carte basis – sign up only for session(s) you need.
The Restorative Approach®, updated in 2019, is a trauma-informed alternative to traditional “point and level” systems for child congregate care settings. Based on attachment theory and the principles of restorative justice, it answers the question, “Now that I understand how trauma affects children, what should I do on Monday?”
Risking Connection Foster Care Train-the-Trainer enables RC Trainers to teach the RC for Foster Parents training at your agency or school. In 2019 the RC for Foster Parents training was reorganized into 8 separate 90-minute modules that can each stand alone or be taught as a series during a timeframe of your choosing. RC Trainers will get exposure to the new materials, experience the exercises, and practice teaching the content. This training focuses on the unique challenges of training foster parents.
Foster Care RC Train-the-Trainer:October 23, 2-5 ET
Monthly RC Mindfulness is an opportunity for the Risking Connection (RC) community to connect and engage in mindfulness practices to help replenish personal well-being and sustain delivery of trauma-informed care. Sessions are free drop-ins open to ALL staff at all RC agencies. The next session of Monthly RC Mindfulness will be July 3, 2024 from 12-12:30 p.m. ET.
